BEC's Fiscal Sponsorship Certification & Training Program prepares organizations to provide high-quality, equity-centered fiscal sponsorship services to the field.
The certification program, launched in partnership with Next Shift Learning, addresses the historical lack of cultural competency in the fiscal sponsorship sector. It offers comprehensive training and technical support to ensure that fiscal sponsors, regardless of size or background, are equipped to provide accountable, values-aligned services to BLOs. Topics include fiduciary responsibility, financial management, grant compliance, and culturally responsive support structures. The program was previewed at the November 2025 National Network of Fiscal Sponsors Conference and will serve as a replicable model for the sector nationwide.
Recruitment for the program is multi-tiered, beginning with fiscal sponsors in the BEC network. A forthcoming survey will further refine outreach strategies, while an advisory committee of BLOs and fiscal sponsors will co-design curriculum content to ensure its relevance and effectiveness. This initiative ultimately allows BEC to scale its impact by shifting institutional practices in the sector that benefit BLOs within the broader fiscal sponsorship landscape.
