Historical data tracking philanthropic investment shows a pattern of underinvestment in Black-led organizations. Despite recent philanthropic initiatives focused on uplifting Black communities, there remains no permanent philanthropic network in California solely dedicated to Black issues, empowering Black voices, investing in Black leadership or Black-led nonprofit organizations. Black-led organizations continue to shoulder the long work of systemic transformation. The work of the Black Equity Collective addresses the lack of investment in BLOs by providing organizational resiliency building to support BLOs in building a strong foundation, strengthening external engagement with key stakeholders, and providing a safe space for Black organizations to thrive.
